    3 VALUABLE LESSONS FROM MY FIRST VIRTUAL EVENTI believe that virtual events are the future. #SoberCon24 was an eye-opening experience. The process was challenging but ultimately rewarding as I learned three valuable lessons along the way which I’m here to share: 1) Preparation is key - Organization and preparation are key. From setting up the technology to booking and scheduling the speakers/panelists, everything needs to be well-planned in advance.2) Flexibility is essential - Always have a contingency plan for issues like technical difficulties or a panelist who is a no-show at the last minute. Despite thorough preparations, some issues may arise so having backup plans will help you navigate through any challenges smoothly.3) Connection can still be made virtually - Engaging with your audience is crucial during a virtual event. Utilize interactive tools like polls or Q&A sessions to keep the conversation going and make participants feel involved, creating an engaging and interactive experience for attendees.     💡 The results of the poll are in…unanimously the biggest pain point for delivering a 'hybrid event' is𝗧𝗘𝗖𝗛𝗡𝗜𝗖𝗔𝗟 𝗗𝗜𝗙𝗙𝗜𝗖𝗨𝗟𝗧𝗜𝗘𝗦. My poll only received one vote 😂, (thank you Rachel Bowman!). Whilst Rachel won’t mind me saying that her answer doesn’t represent all you#eventprofs, it’s worthwhile looking at some of the pain points and how these can be avoided. Lets’s start with...➡ 𝗧𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗻𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗱𝗶𝗳𝗳𝗶𝗰𝘂𝗹𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀From a production perspective,there’s a lot thatpotentiallycan go wrong with streaming anddelaysbetween host and remote speakersdialling in. To avoidthis pain point,ensure there are several testing phases, thorough rehearsals and contingency plans put in place. Good comms and a responsive technical support team who can roll with the punches are essential because it will change!➡ 𝗦𝘆𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗯𝗼𝘁𝗵 𝗮𝘂𝗱𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲𝘀You want the experience to be seamless and very much in sync. Having a low latency within your platform for your embedded live feed is crucial.➡ 𝗧𝘄𝗼 𝘄𝗮𝘆 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀Engaging both in-person and virtual audiences throughout an event can be challenging, especially when you can’t interact with virtual attendees in the same way as those present. To keep virtual attendees engaged, offer new and creative opportunities for them to interact with the event andscheduled opportunitiesto interact witheach other.
