  Dr. O'Brien was an incredibly fun prof to attend. Her fun and outgoing nature makes her a very captivating and caring teacher. The class was also incredibly fair, with the unit quizzes being based on the major parts of the textbook chapters (eg. Vocab, verb tenses, etc.). Overall, amazing prof that I'm happy to have taken for language requirement.

  She might be the best professor at UBC I have ever had. She is very friendly with a wonderful sense of humour and I cannot recommend her enough. If your are looking for a gpa-booster this is the class you need to take.

  It breaks my heart to write this: she is kind, funny, understanding... but you will not learn much french in her class. She skips over teaching grammar points because she thinks it is too boring for us, but that is why we are there. She doesn't like to make you speak french aloud, because that is for primary kids. I had to teach myself a lot.

  Juliet is very nice and a good French prof. She is super generous and is always willing to support your learning, which I really appreciate. She is flexible with projects and discussions, which I found helpful. She gets students to push themselves in a comfortable way. I would definitely take her again in future French classes.

  Had Juliet for FREN101, but I'm not sure if it was just her or the general course content but I felt like I barely learned anything. Coming from a Canadian high school French background, the amount of content she covered felt way too minimal and too slow. I could honestly never tell if she teaching or not. Really kind and forgiving though.

  If you actually want to learn french this Prof will not help you. I am currently in her class FREN 201 and its a nightmare, she has a habit of ranting on about essentially nothing and we don't really go over material in class. when you sit down to do the actual homework its way beyond what she teaches. Total joke, avoid if you want to learn french.

  Probably the most caring Prof you'll ever encounter! Juliet was such an amazing prof, although class would sometimes be chaotic, she really did ensure that everyone would have fun during her class! Instead of a final exam, she had us do a project instead and part of your grade was decided by your peers! I 100% recommend taking one of her classes!

  Dr. O'Brien is a character. Yes, she is super nice but you will learn next to nothing in the class. For reference, we spent the first two weeks learning words like bonjour and au revoir. That's it. With no prior knowledge in French, this class will be super confusing - she doesn't teach you the basics. Easy assignments, 1 every week.

  Professor O'Brien is one of the sweetest profs I've ever had. She genuinely cares about all of her students and unlike most profs, she's very understanding and will actually work something out with you if you're stressed out and need a deadline extension or anything like that. Would take again!

  Juliet is an extremely kind person, very open to chatting about deadlines. Her lectures on the other hand, dreadful. Just throws a whole bunch of random resources at you in a scattered manner. Could be because of the online format, but definitely wouldn't take again. If you need a professor to be really helpful for you, don't take her class.

  While Juliet may not be the best prof to grade your assignments, she is very caring and intelligent. Sometimes during the office hours, she can get carried away by off topics but you can always bring the conversation back to the focus by politely asking your question again. Be polite to her, because we dont have many lovely person like her.

  She's really nice and lenient with her deadlines, but her course planning is terrible and is very slow with marking. It's been over a month since her course has ended and my class is yet to receive our final grade from her. While she makes the course easy, you won't properly learn the language. There are other professors who are more effective.

  Dreadful instructor! Completely unprepared, gives As pretty much to all as to compensate for her inability to teach. Shows up late, returns assignments way late. She acts nice in view of teaching evaluations: an insult to our intelligence. One of the worst classes at UBC!

  No idea how I got an A. We went into an online partway through (COVID19) and many people did not attend the classes, managing to get an A/A-. For some, this is great, easy A! For me, PURE PANIC. I feel like I haven't learned enough to go into FREN220. Yes, she's caring. I felt her lectures weren't organized well :/. Flexible deadlines!

  She's one of the best profs, hilarious and caring. To pass the class you need to go to class but she makes learning a new language fun. You might even want to continue learning. Recommended!

  Literally the BEST class and professor I have EVER taken. This class is a lit requirements for arts students which is why I took it and omg, not only is O'Brien the most caring prof I've ever had, your grade is based off of reading commentary, one creative project of your choice, and peer feedback. She wants everyone to do amazing. TAKE THIS CLASS!
